Tampere ImmunoExcellence (TIE) is a multidisciplinary platform for vaccine-related immunobiology and public health research at Tampere University. TIE creates a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment for strong preclinical, clinical and postlicensure vaccine-related research, including breakthroughs in understanding the immune system and evaluating the population impact of vaccination programs. 

The tenure track position with a focus in immunobiology research will be affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology, MET. The position with a focus in public health research will be affiliated with the Health Sciences Unit (HES) in the Faculty of Social Sciences, SOC.

Job descriptions  

We are seeking outstanding candidates who have a track record of internationally significant research in the TIE platform focus areas, such as immunobiology, immunomodulators, clinical vaccine research and, vaccine-related public health research. However, the specific area of research focus is open. 

Position 1 

The incumbent will independently establish and lead a line of high-quality research to complement and advance the active research areas of the TIE platform, including expanding the network of collaborators. This research program should aim for excellence in preclinical or clinical vaccine research, immunobiology or immunomodulators.

Position 2

The incumbent will focus on vaccine-related public health research. He/she will independently establish and lead a high-quality research program that will complement and advance the research areas of the TIE platform, including expanding the network of collaborators. The specific area of research focus is open, and the candidate may conduct research related to vaccines in relevant topics, such as disease burden, efficacy, effectiveness, impact, safety, programs, coverage, confidence and policy. Candidates with interdisciplinary research approaches and collaborations will be given special consideration. 

In both positions, the successful candidates will be placed at the level of Assistant professor or Associate professor, based on qualifications and merits. While in the early career stages (Assistant professor) the primary focus will be on research, we expect gradually increasing contributions to teaching, curriculum development and graduate and post-graduate student mentoring in the more advanced tenure-track stages.

Requirements 

Both positions

We require:

  • doctoral degree in a suitable field with relevant post-doctoral research experience
  • communication and teaching skills needed to succesfully perform the duties and functions of the position
  • proficiency in English

Assistant Professor

We require:

  • ability to independently conduct internationally significant research in a relevant field with potential for excellence and leadership in research
  • experience in collaborating with international scientific networks

Associate Professor

We require:

  • a track record of independently conducting internationally significant research in a relevant field and demonstrated excellence and leadership in research
  • experience in establishing and leading a research group, including supervision, mentoring and project management
  • success in obtaining competitive research funding
  • extensive experience in collaborating with international scientific networks

Candidates may be invited to a video interview during the recruitment process. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview at Tampere University and may need to take an aptitude test and demonstrate their teaching skills.
