Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS) to work in an industry funded research project that aims to development of computer vision based technology for visual-inertial odometry and localization of non-road mobile machinery.

The employment contract is made for a fixed term of 14 months. A trial period 6 months is applied in the position.

A successful candidate is expected to have

  • a doctoral degree in Computer Science or related fields,
  • at least 4 years’ experience and expertise on computer vision, and in particular, topics that are related to visual odometry, simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and 3D geometry,
  • strong mathematical and programming skills, and
  • fluent written and oral English language skills.

CMVS (http://www.oulu.fi/cmvs) is renowned world-wide for its scientific breakthroughs in machine vision and signal analysis. Many of its results, including the Local Binary Pattern, face analysis and geometric camera calibration methodologies, are highly cited and have been adopted for different types of problems and applications around the world. The unit provides an internationally attractive and inspiring research environment with 5 professors and around 50 research scientists including postdoctoral researchers, doctoral students and visiting scholars, and an extensive international collaboration network. The main research interests of CMVS are in computer vision and machine learning, affective computing, multimodal image and signal analysis, low-energy computing, and applications in affective human-computer interaction, biometrics, augmented reality, and biomedicine.

The salary will be based on level 5 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). In practice, the overall salary range is 3400 ‐ 3700€ per month depending on the appointee’s qualification and experience.
