Senior Software Developer, WeLeap/Transformation experience

At Wärtsilä, we have an internal transformation team supporting over 18.000 Wärtsilians in their transformation journeys. We are working in an agile program with three streams. The developer role is placed in the “Transformation Companion” stream, where the transformation experience comes to life both via the online experience as well as offline events and subprograms. There is also a developer network internally that can be reached out to for peer coaching.

The developer role is located in the Helsinki Campus, Salmisaari.

As a Software developer in our team

Your daily tasks will involve developing the WeLeap platform as part of the development team. You are also expected to continuously improve the codebase and participate in elevating the team skills and knowledge. The team you will join consist of Product Owner, Solution Architect, UX Designer and Content Coordinator. The team works in a global setting and the selected person will be expected to interact with stakeholders, users and the program members, to ensure the delivery of a well-perceived transformation experience through content and activities delivered via the WeLeap platform. You will need to embrace the agile ways of working and actively contribute to the feature breakdown and refinement.

As we are a small team, we value the possibility to support each other in reaching our common goals. From a UX perspective, we are looking for someone who can work with Zeplin as a link of communication between design and implementation. We are looking for someone who can make decisions and proposals based on user research data and that is proactive and curious about testing and validating. Interest in organization and co-creation of a component library or design system is a plus. Finally, from a UX perspective, we are looking for someone who is interested in the bigger picture of the transformation experience,  since many decisions and designs will be based on the understanding of it.

In our work we value an open and collaborative mindset and expect us to work together as a team. Backlog items are not considered as work-orders, but always as common goals, which we seek to solve in a human-centric manner.

What we require:

The developer we are looking for is a seasoned front-end developer, but must be willing to work to some degree on the backend.

We hope you:

  * Have an excellent understanding of the following:

   - React+Redux using TypeScript

   - Frontend unit testing (Jest)

   - Webpack4 (eg. optimizing build speed, bundle size, code splitting)

   - CSS (eg. flexbox, animations) and SCSS

   - Service workers, progressive web applications

  * Know how to support legacy browsers down to IE 11 while keeping things performing for modern clients

  * Know how to optimizing web app performance

  * Have practical experience in making responsive web applications

  * Have a strong grasp of frontend best practices, especially with the mentioned stack

  * Have experience in working with RESTful APIs, both consuming and designing

  * Have an innate desire to improve quality and a drive for perfection, proactively seeking the best solution

What we would like to see as well:

  * Experience designing and implementing microservices

  * Experience with database design (SQL)

  * Experience with consuming and/or modeling Contentful data as a part of a dynamic web application

  * Golang experience

  * K8s / AWS experience

  * Experience working with Docker, Make, shell scripting

  * Understanding of and/or experience in working with Prometheus / Grafana / Jaeger

  * Understanding of one or more of the following: Websockets, MessageQueues (e.g. RabbitMQ), Istio, Networking in general
