Postdoctoral Researcher, Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship, for a fixed period of 2 January 2020 – 31 December 2023

Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) conducts high-quality research and offers quality degree education and executive education in business and economics. According to our mission, JSBE strives for enabling excellence in responsible business, digital business and economy, and policy-relevant economics. In addition, we contribute to the societal impact of the University by promoting university-based entrepreneurship and innovation activities.   

JSBE received AACSB accreditation in 2018. Our Excecutive MBA has AMBA accreditation. JSBE’s research is ranked among top 301-400 in Shanghai’s Academic Ranking of World Universities and Times High Education ranking.

JSBE is an active, international, and cooperative faculty in the dynamic and international University of Jyväskylä. The number of JSBE faculty is around 120, including more than 20 professors. About 1.500 students study at JSBE. Each year, around 170 students graduate as Masters of Science, and about 10 doctoral dissertations are publicly defended at JSBE.

Postdoctoral Researcher participates in the work of strategy and entrepreneurship research group. The research group studies and publishes in the fields of strategic management, entrepreneurship and technology management and innovation studies. Research by the faculty has been recently published in the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy, and other leading journals of the research field. Postdoctoral Researcher´s duties will focus on scientific research and publishing and include planning of research projects and applying for research funding. Also teaching of two coures, a seminar, supervision of master theses and administrative tasks are included in the work of the Postdoctoral Researcher.

The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have good skills in English language.

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D in strategic management or other adjacent fields (e.g. organizational economics, entrepreneurship, international business, or technology and innovation management) as well as experience in research and teaching in the fields of strategic management and/or entrepreneurship. Evidence on participation in research projects, research funding, and thesis supervision will be considered as an advantage for the applicant. While we consider applicants from all areas of strategic management, we value those that focus on the research of competitive strategy, industry evolution or strategy processes. An ideal applicant should have an ambitious research agenda targeting to publishing in the highest impact strategic management journals (e.g. Strategic Management Journal or Organization Science) or general management journals (e.g. Academy of Management Journal or Administrative Science Quarterly).

The salary of a successful candidate will be based on level 5-6 of of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary will be between 3100-4300 EUR/month depending on the qualifications and experience of  the candidate.
