The research team of Kaisa Ivaska-Papaioannou at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Turku is looking for a highly motivated graduate student for fixed term employment. The position is a part of a research project funded by the Academy of Finland aimed at understanding the role of bone-derived endocrine factors in the regulation of whole body glucose homeostasis.

Bone-derived endocrine factors, or osteokines, are able to regulate whole body glucose homeostasis in animal models. The evidence in humans, however, remains inconclusive. This research project aims to characterize osteokines in circulation and in the local bone marrow microenvironment, and to investigate the regulation, significance and diagnostic potential of osteokines.

The work will include cell culture, molecular biology, protein analytics and handling of animal and human samples. Any previous experience on the aforementioned techniques is beneficial but not mandatory for the applicant. The successful candidate will have a higher university degree completed (or nearly completed) and he/she should have studies in one or more field relevant for the position (e.g.; cell biology, biomedicine, or biochemistry).

For the registration as a graduate student at University of Turku, a completed Master’s degree, a research plan and the ability and motivation to carry out the planned graduate studies are required. In case the selected candidate is not eligible for registration as a graduate student at the time of employment, the title of project researcher will be initially used.

There will be a six-month trial period in the contract.

The position will be available from January 1st 2020 or later upon negotiation for two years. The salary is in accordance with the University of Turku salary system (for teaching and research personnel), which is 2155,29 euros/month at minimum for a graduate student.

Applications must be submitted no later than 29.11.2019 (23:59) via the electronic application form of the University of Turku. Contact information and the link to the application system can be found from the University of Turku recruitment page https://www.utu.fi/en/university/come-work-with-us/open-vacancies.
