Call for applications for Doctoral Researcher positions

The Aalto University School of Business is the leading business school in Finland. The School belongs to the select group of business schools that have been granted the most important international quality accreditations in their field. The School of Business is an innovative and lively community of about 3.500 students and 400 members of faculty and staff.

Aalto University Doctoral Program in Business, Economics and Finance invites applications for Doctoral Researcherpositions from students who started their doctoral studies in the program in 2017 and 2018.

This year, Aalto University School of Business will offer up to fourteen 50% employment contracts to students who demonstrate outstanding progress and excellence in their studies.

The expectation is that the successful candidates will work full-time on their doctoral dissertations and will independently apply for additional funding from external sources if required. During the employment contract, however, the successful candidate may raise no more than 14.000€/year in external grant funding (excluding travel grants) or have no higher than a 50% employment contract elsewhere.

Employment period: September 1, 2020–August 31, 2021.

At Aalto University School of Business, the duties of a Doctoral Researcher include various departmental tasks that support the professional and career development of the doctoral student, typically serving as a teaching assistant (no more than 81 h/year, which corresponds to 5% of 100% contract).

  • Transcript of grades from doctoral training
  • Research proposal
  • The principal supervisor’s supporting statement (to be submitted as a pdf-document by email to [email protected])

Both the application and the supervisor’s statement must be submitted by Wednesday, January 15th, 2020 at the latest.

Selection criteria

In the selection process, priority will be given to applicants who have made significant progress in their studies and doctoral research. Departmental/Unit Directors of Doctoral Studies will rank applicants from their departments/units based on the following criteria:

·         Research progress

·         Completed doctoral courses and GPA

·         Papers published or in the pipeline

·         Contributions to teaching and university service

·         Studies/scholarly visits abroad

The application process will be managed by Planning Officer Hanne Lehtinen who acts as the Selection Committee Secretary. The final decision on employment contracts will be taken by the Dean of the School of Business.
