Water and Environmental Engineering Research Group at Aalto University School of Engineering, Department of Built Environment invites applications for:

Position for Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental Hydraulics and Environmentally Sound Hydraulic Engineering

We seek a qualified and highly motivated individual with enthusiastic attitude towards research in the rapidly developing field of environmental hydraulics and environmentally sound hydraulic engineering. Our studies deal with both natural and built environments, in particular rivers, agricultural channels, and urban water features. The fully-funded position is for a period of 2 years, and available to start in spring 2020 (negotiable).

Main responsibilities: You are going to participate in as well as independently conduct research on advancing understanding of the dynamics and processes of water, sediment, vegetation, nutrients, and harmful substances in the hydro-environment. Laboratory and field-scale experiments and/or numerical models are used to develop nature-based engineering solutions to transdisciplinary problems. You will write scientific papers jointly with other members in the group and publish actively in conferences and journals.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a completed doctoral degree in a related field (engineering or natural sciences). Knowledge on fluvial environments, (environmental) hydraulics or fluid mechanics is required. Proficiency in experimental methods (e.g. laboratory flume investigations) is considered an asset.

Research environment: The successful candidate will work within a team of senior and postdoc researchers and doctoral students led by Prof. Harri Koivusalo (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-built-environment/water-and-environmental-engineering). The topics of the team broadly cover water resources management issues ranging from computational description of hydrological processes in different land use types to design of environmentally preferable channels (http://bit.ly/2qISQ9M). The candidate has access to the research infrastructure of the Aalto Environmental Hydraulics Lab (EHL) led by Dr. Juha Järvelä (https://www.aalto.fi/en/services/environmental-hydraulics-lab).

Contract terms: The starting monthly salary for the position is 3500 euros and follows the university salary system. The contract including occupational healthcare is first made for one year, and the extension is subject to advance of research.

2.      CV including summary of previous research experience and publications, and contact information for two reference persons (max two pages)

3.      A copy of doctoral and master´s degree certificate and official transcript of records with courses and grades

The application should be submitted through the eRecruitment system (link 'Apply for this job' below) no later than 31.1.2020
