VTT – beyond the obvious.

The Optical measurements team belongs to the VTT’s Research area “Sensing and Integration”, which has about 120 staff. The mission of the team is to develop optical measurements solutions and high performance instruments for demanding industrial applications as well as for near consumer products. The team has 26 cross-functional experts covering the necessary development chain from application studies to sensor system integration and assembly for the optical instrument development. Optical measurements team is committed to exploitation of project results through industrial commercialization.

We are looking for two Summer Internships to our Optical measurements team in Oulu. You will work with our experts in the field of optoelectronics, optical sensing, spectroscopy or machine vision. The application areas can vary from agriculture to mining, paper, process and defense industry. You will be part of our cross-functional engineering team (optical-, electrical - and mechanical design, assembly, calibration, testing and software design), which develops prototypes and measurement methods.

Main responsibilities:

Participation in team’s research activities in optoelectronics, optical sensing methods, spectroscopy or machine vision areas in several of the following
• Electric circuit and layout design and testing
• Building measurement set-up’s in the laboratory
• Making laboratory measurements with spectrometers, camera systems, laser time-of-flight systems or other instruments
• Organizing and analysing measurement data
• Software development
• Data analysis and artificial intelligence
• Writing short reports of your work

You don’t have to have competence for all above mentioned points. Responsibilities will be selected based on your background.

You are a student in engineering or physics (close to completing your BSc) and have
• Excellent university grades
• An interest in electronics, physics, mathematics and/or programming
• Good verbal and written English

Curious about science and new technologies.
• We also appreciate taking initiative and good interaction skills.
