The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry is an expert in the responsible use of renewable natural resources both in Finland and worldwide. The mission of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry is to promote the sustainable use of renewable natural resources through scientific research and research-based teaching. We cover the full natural resource chain from farm to fork, the entire field of forest sciences from soil chemistry to marketing, as well as the environmental effects of related activities. The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry is seeking for a
DOCTORAL STUDENT
The position is for three years, with a planned start date 1 May 2020. The doctoral student will do his/her PhD thesis on a project Prospects for the development of blue economy under changing climate and changing society. The project will focus on identification of opportunities for the development of industries, businesses and services that rely on aquatic ecosystems. In the first phase, the project focuses on possibilities and risks of offshore wind power and obstacles for its wider use. Next phases will be planned according to the interests of the doctoral student.
The successful candidate will hold M.Sc. degree in resource and environmental economics or related discipline. The appointee must either have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry within the Doctoral Programme in Sustainable Use of Renewable Natural Resources (AGFOREE) by the start of the appointment, or apply for the right and obtain it within the probationary period. The salary is based on levels 2–4 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. Furthermore, the University of Helsinki offers comprehensive services to its employees, including occupational health care and health insurance, sports facilities, and opportunities for professional development. The position is funded by the University of Helsinki Baltic Sea Fund.
