The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET) is dedicated to pursuing world-class research and delivering high-quality education in the fields of biomedical engineering, biotechnology, medicine and health technology. The MET Faculty has 70 professors and over 600 members of staff and we conduct internationally acclaimed basic and applied research. In the field of biomedical engineering, the Faculty’s focus areas include biomedical measurements, imaging and instrumentation, health and bio informatics, and biomaterials and tissue engineering. With world-class research activities in such medical fields as prostate cancer, celiac disease, child health and cardiovascular diseases, the Faculty provides excellent facilities for cross-sectional research collaboration. Now, we are aiming to strengthen our research and education in the field of digital healthcare. 

Job description  

We are seeking highly motivated and accomplished applicants in the area of digital healthcare. As the professor is expected to take responsibility on development of the digital healthcare education and research, the position will be filled at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor, based on the experience and expertise of the selected candidate. We are interested in candidates who can complement our present expertise and activities in this research area.

The position can be tailored according to your specific expertise. You can focus your research activities on several different aspects of digital healthcare, such as:

  • Data analytics and machine learning for health data, 
  • Digitally augmented clinical decision making integrating multimodal data from clinical processes, patient records or patient’s own data 
  • Mobile health, tele health and digital home care applications,
  • Data-based preventive and personalized health care.

You are expected to pursue and supervise scientific research in the field, as well as lead, conduct and develop education in digital healthcare. Active collaboration with local, national and European research partners, clinical stakeholders and companies is encouraged. Interacting with the society and acquiring external funding are other central responsibilities of the position.

Requirements 

You should hold an applicable doctoral degree in the area of the professorship. You should also have teaching and scientific research experience in digital healthcare and practical collaboration with companies or hospitals.

Associate Professor

We require:

  • track record of independent and international scholarly activity in the field of the professorship,
  • teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position,
  • ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding.

Professor

We require:

  • high-level scholarly expertise in the field of the professorship,
  • experience of leading scientific research and projects,
  • skills and ability to plan and provide high-quality research-based education and instruction,
  • track record of winning external research funding,
  • track record of international scholarly activity and collaboration.

The position is located in Seinäjoki campus but you will also work in Tampere campuses in Tampere.

Initial appointments for associate professors are for five years with renewal and eventual permanent tenure subject to successful performance evaluation. You will have support throughout the five-year period to facilitate the establishment of an internationally competitive research programme.  A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

Candidates may be invited for a video interview during the first stage of the recruitment process. They will also undergo a review by external experts and may be required to give a demonstration of their teaching skills.
