Your home team will be the local Applications Engineering Technical Communications team in Nokia’s software development R&D on our Helsinki/Espoo R&D site.
• Write and update installation / deployment, administration and solution documentation, API reference and developer documentation, and online help sets.
• Gather and synthesize technical information from R&D Scrum Team members, Product Owners, and Specifications.
• Explore and as needed also install applications to develop topics, document maps, and ensure that source files are appropriately “checked-in” to version management system and processed for customer deliveries.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Professional Services, Application, Pre-Sales, Support, and Product Owners, to create, review, and complete document deliverables.
• Develop and maintain clear, concise, and accurate information, and ensure content and branding aligns with Nokia style and conventions.
• Develop and maintain graphics that are visually engaging and highly usable.
• Peer-review and pre-test your documents and validate them for grammatical correctness, clarity, and compliance with Nokia style.
• Dependent on projects, you may be engaged in assisting Product Owners and marketing teams in editing solution presentations and solution descriptions (outside main responsibility).
• Be comfortable with persistently making clarifications and asking questions to create good quality documentation, and giving support and guidance in matters concerning documentation.
• Peer-review other documentation deliverables as time permits.
• Stay aware of industry trends and best practices, to enhance and evolve documentation models, tools and processes.
• Ensure deliverables are accessible to internal and external customers.
• Share knowledge and information proactively with colleagues and R&D to ensure team success.
General Requirements
• Experience and a track record in successfully working in the technical writer role in software development industry for technical and end-user audiences. Experience with developer documentation (such as API documentation) is an asset.
• University degree or equivalent in technical communication field.
• Excellent English skills, with excellent technical communication skills and extraordinary attention to detail.
• Experience with information design concepts, including structured writing, with demonstrated ability to design and develop documentation deliverables.
• Familiarity with contextual UI help.

• Experience working with an XML-based semantic markup language.
• Proficiency with document and help authoring tools (e.g. Oxygen, Adobe FrameMaker with DITA XML, Acrobat Professional) and MS Office tools (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Proficiency with graphic tools (e.g., Paint Shop Pro, Inkscape)
• Experience in developing documentation using linear and modular methodologies.
• Experience with Unix, Linux and Windows environments.
• You might have experience and/or skills in one of the following that we consider as an asset:
o Practical experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, CVS) and defect-tracking systems (eg., JIRA).
o Experience with Eclipse user assistance
o Web technologies such as XML and HTML
o Scripting languages, such as Python or JavaScript
o XML-based documentation tool chain development (e.g., XML, XSLT, XSL-FO, XPath, Maven, Bamboo, Ant)
o Web services technologies (WSDL, XML, JSON, and REST)
o W3C XML schema (XSD) and JSON schema
o Concepts common to enterprise application servers (e.g., JBoss, WebLogic)
o Telecom business and application domain
