We are looking for a VP, Strategy & Business Development to join us in UPM Biorefining Business Area. The position will be located in Helsinki, Finland.

UPM Biorefining Business Area leverages the synergies of its Pulp, Timber and Biofuels businesses. Focusing on growth, we create value and new business opportunities from wood and biomass originating solely from sustainable sources. Our modern production sites in Finland cover three pulp mills, four sawmills and a biorefinery producing wood-based renewable diesel, as well as wood sourcing and forestry operations. In Uruguay we run a pulp mill and plantation operations.

What you’ll do

As a member of the Biorefining Business Area management team you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the business strategy, business development and business intelligence. You will also have a key role in the pulp commercial development.

  • Develop and formulate the Business Area strategy and participate in communicating it internally and externally
  • Work with sales and business leadership on commercial strategies to drive desired sales and profitability growth
  • Drive pulp commercial development as a member of Pulp Sales Commercial Development Management team
  • Drive the development of strategic projects in the Business Area
  • Lead the Strategy & Business Development team
  • Lead and drive the Business Intelligence, forecasts and scenarios for the Business Area
  • Create and deliver persuasive presentations to key stakeholders, influencers, technology partners and customers to position the value proposition

Who you are

  • You have at least a master’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering or economics
  • You have at least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably from both strategy and commercial development
  • Experience from pulp or forest industries is an asset
  • You have excellent strategic skills to formulate the strategy including:

                             - qualitative and quantitative analysis

                             - creating strategic frameworks and story

                             - bringing analysis to clear and concise conclusions

  • You work easily with people coming from different backgrounds
  • You have strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as strong facilitation and coaching skills
  • You are experienced in strategy work with a proven track record
  • You are fluent in both English and Finnish. Other languages are considered as an asset
