We’re looking for experienced Director of Engineering for Infrastructure to join our product organization at the Smartly.io headquarters in Helsinki.
Smartly.io is growing fast, and we need your experience and drive to help us continue at this velocity. As Director of Engineering for Infrastructure, you'll be part of the Engineering Leadership team, leading our existing DevOps teams and growing our capabilities in other areas, such as SRE, Security and the move away from bare-metal.
Your goal is to ensure that we can provide a reliable service to our customers and improve the development tools for our engineers. We believe in automating our infrastructure as much as possible and pursuing challenging problems in a sustainable and repeatable way. Currently, our infrastructure processes petabytes of data every month through hundreds of servers.

Hybrid Cloud: 1000+ dedicated servers and Private Cloud, Infrastructure as code.
Here’s What You'll Do:
- Mentor, grow, and empower your teams by giving them the skills, confidence and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to their personal and professional success, and enable them to become technical leaders.
- Think ahead and set the vision and roadmap for Smartly.io infrastructure
- Work with our Product Engineering teams to ensure alignment of roadmaps and communicate clear boundaries with other teams.
- Make sure that our entire engineering team has the best tools they need to seamlessly and efficiently ship code every day
- Partner with recruiting to help scale the Infrastructure teams by actively sourcing and closing the best talent
- Bring out the best in the individuals in your teams by enabling them to do the best work of their lives
- Ensure our services communicate with each other seamlessly, have minimal downtime, and recover quickly
- Impact the productivity and happiness of our entire team with the tools we build.
Here's What We're Looking For:
- Several years of experience successfully managing teams of engineers on large-scale projects that included technical deep-dives and production troubleshooting in the areas of distributed systems, debugging, performance
- Ability to set a long-term vision for the team and drive long-term execution towards that vision
- A thorough approach to technical design and execution of large technical projects. Willingness to be hands-on at times and looked up to for technical abilities and experience
- Good at communicating organizational boundaries, setting expectations with others, and interfacing with product engineering teams
- Able to mentor, coach, and develop engineers to do the best work of their lives. Works to forge the bonds of a strong team
- Track record of hiring engineers at scale
- Understands the importance of security and compliance when working with personal data
