ICEYE is building and operating its own commercial constellation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites with SAR data already available to customers. These satellites can take images of Earth at any time – even when it’s cloudy or dark. Information derived from these images will help our customers understand the world better and help them make more intelligent decisions. We launched the world’s first SAR microsatellite in January 2018 and have raised $65M in financing to date.

To support the growth of the company, we are looking for a Space Mission Manager to join our team located in our headquarters in Espoo, Finland. You will report directly to the VP Space Missions.


Your daily tasks:

  • Responsible for all phases of planning and delivery of the Iceye Spacecraft
  • Unit level manufacturing and test by internal production process
  • Procurement of subsystems from external subcontractors
  • Assembly, Integration and Test of the spacecraft
  • Environmental testing of the spacecraft
  • Launch site support where required
  • Launch and early operations phase testing and delivery into Operations
  • Work as a key member of the Space Missions group, leading and concurrently implementing the technical direction across each mission in conjunction with the other Engineering teams
  • Ensure effective plans are in place to deliver configuration controlled spacecraft to the appropriate quality level, within mission budgets and schedule constraints
  • Communicate flight acceptance/qualification approaches and testing required from engineering teams for subsystems delivery into the spacecraft build process
  • Define and implement system test plans flown down from top level system requirements &create test procedures flowing down from test plans, traceable to system level requirements
  • Plan, facilitate, schedule and budget for all phase activities and track testing progress
  • Ensure that test results review is taking place by the responsible engineers and that AIV/EVTgate reviews are being held and only passed when all results are confirmed
  • Manage test operators, AIV Engineers & responsible Engineers’ activities across each mission
  • Work with Product Assurance to ensure appropriate engineering policies and practices are being implemented across each mission and non-conformances and deviations are tracked
  • Facilitate, schedule and budget for core AIV support equipment across missions
  • Electrical and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment
  • Test equipment and Ground Test cables
  • Oversee and maintain tidiness and safe working practices in the cleanroom
  • Perform road mapping of future mission configurations and identify the mission implications
  • Post launch commissioning of the Spacecraft and handover into Operations
  • Support launch site spacecraft checkout and launch vehicle integration and test activities
  • Facilitate and schedule the LEOP commissioning


Your attributes that we need:

  • Previous exposure to some parts of the Systems engineering and/or AIV aspects of flight hardware and the definition, enforcement and monitoring of certain aspects of unit, subsystem, system or operational phases.
  • A systems thinking approach paired with ability to look at the “big picture”, from a top-down perspective.
  • At least one year of experience working in these areas for a relevant project that has been delivered to its end user or customer.
  • Experience implementing project management of a technical mission within a strong team environment and leading key tasks or groups towards a deliverable end goal.
  • Good people skills and demonstrable interpersonal skills including experience with diverse cultural and technical backgrounds.
  • A degree in a Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics discipline or having had relevant experience in a Systems, AIV or AIV-System role in Aerospace or a closely related area.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills (technical fluency in English required).

Your extra ones:

  • Working knowledge of satellite architectures: power system, AOCS, RF, Payloads, harnessing, communication interfaces, mechanical structures and mechanisms, as well as ground support equipment (MGSE and EGSE).
  • Ability to flexibly cope in time pressured and high stress periods in the mission timeline.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity in systems, people & processes to assist in meeting strategic need.
  • Ability to understand the need for parallel top down and bottom up strategies.
  • Exposure to embedded systems and software development and its characteristics.
  • Exposure to software development and the need for strong configuration control.
