JOIN YOUSICIAN

At Yousician, our job is to reimagine music education. We’ve built an amazing team of creative, passionate, and independent people, all working together to help millions of future musicians learn, play, reach their goals, and have fun. If this sounds like the right mission for you, you’re in the right place!

WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY

What makes our users tick? How do they use Yousician with their instruments? We’re looking for someone with a strong practical user and market research background to turn data-driven insights into the way our users experience Yousician.

At Yousician, a new person starts playing a musical instrument with one of our apps every couple of seconds. At that scale, we’re making learning an instrument more accessible than ever.

With it comes a great responsibility to ensure our users stay engaged, motivated, and truly become musically creative. We’re hiring a User and Market Researcher whose mission is to understand our users and turn this insight into the actionable recommendations that shape our product roadmap and marketing activities.

You’ll have great opportunity and responsibility to impact both your role and how things are done in our product and marketing design. Above all, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to re-image the way music education works.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Plan, design and conduct market research and user research studies (e.g. interviews, usability testing, focus groups, observational methods). In the short term this will be with how users use our service, and in the long term how users improve their music skills over time.
  • Investigate our current and future competitors, to learn of their marketing approaches and UX design conventions, and disseminate relevant best practices to our teams.
  • Analyze quantitative user data and metrics to better understand the behavior, motivation and thinking of our users.
  • Synthesize and present actionable research findings that will shape the future product and marketing design, functionalities and product roadmap decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with our product managers, designers, UX specialists and engineers to turn the user insight into design requirements and clear goals and priorities in the product roadmap.
  • Identify new opportunities how to better serve our identified user segments in their musical learning journey.
  • Present and represent to the team what our users out there are like, so that for us it feels like the Personas are actual real tangible people that are using our products.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses, find critical UX and marketing roadblocks for users that we should address first. Be the critical eye that can find our weak spots in our UX.
  • Mainly working with: marketeers, PMs, educators, designers
  • Plan what kind of data/metrics we need to collect via YS App to answer relevant questions on the UX.
  • Research the best practices and "teaching tricks of the trade" when designing learning games. Bring that information to us and help us adopt the best practices.
  • Compare our product offering with established “self-betterment” products. What is missing? What is different? Why? What is best?

 WHO YOU ARE

  • Background in e.g in UX design, usability engineering, HCI, marketing research, social sciences, education, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a business-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative and qualitative user and market research methods, usability research tools and the confidence to apply these and invent your own methods as needed.
  • Genuine curiosity to understand how people think, behave, feel, and get motivated.
  • Proven track record of consistently producing and presenting findings that are well communicated providing actionable and sound recommendations.
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles, UX best practices, and heuristics.
  • Solid organizational, project management, and planning skills.
  • Great in people interaction, good facilitator and listener, ability to understand people even if they don’t directly say it.
  • Ability to create engaging presentations and well-written reports.
  • Ability to collaborate with decision makers, opinion leaders, and agile teams in a fast-paced growth organization and get things done.
  • Capability to formulate and independently execute research initiatives, sense of ownership; ability to determine what to work on, how to accomplish it, and when to deliver.
  • Interest in music and musical background is considered an advantage.

WORK HARD, PLAY HARD

  • We follow the Lean Startup approach rather closely, you should be familiar with it and enjoy working in an experimental environment that is data-informed and results-driven.
  • We work in small, efficient teams where everyone takes strong ownership for his/her project parts (with a lot of freedom comes a lot of responsibility).
  • We are a group of proactive people with a can-do attitude.
  • We want Yousician to be the best place in the world to work at, and put a lot of effort in creating a creative, motivating and fun working environment. This starts with our great team, and also includes daily pull-up and weekly yoga sessions, bonus for sport activities, jam sessions, poker tournaments and sauna evenings, and our famous Greece and Thailand work-retreats. Join us!

WHAT WE OFFER

  • You'll have a meaningful and profound impact on the lives of millions of musicians and future musicians all around the world.
  • You'll get a competitive compensation package - salary, stock options, crazy perks - and work in an awesome new office in the heart of Helsinki.
  • We have lots of perks and quirks: jam sessions (with more instruments than you can shake a drumstick at!), board game tournaments, cooking clubs, and our famous Greece, Thailand, Tenerife, Bali, Curacao and Las Palmas work-retreats.

How to apply

  • Send us your application and CV (in English). Let's make the world a more musical place together! Everyone who comes to a personal interview at our office gets a ukulele. #rockon
