The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (ENS) is inviting applications for the position of University Lecturer / University Instructor in Mechanical Engineering with specialization to aircraft engineering. Aircraft Engineering is one of the focal areas of research and education of Tampere University. ENS coordinates the MSc program in Aircraft Engineering and provides also bachelor level studies in Aircraft Engineering to Tampere University of Applied Sciences.

Job description

We are seeking highly motivated and accomplished applicants for teaching in aircraft engineering courses. We especially welcome applicants who can complement our current teaching and research profile with expertise in aerodynamics and flight mechanics. The position can be tailored to a certain extent according to your specific expertise, but it will include taking responsibility of 3 – 5 of the following courses:

• MEI-70060 Aerodynamical modelling
• MEI-70050 Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics
• MEI-70070 Advanced course in flight mechanics
• MEI-70100 Aircraft Loads and Structures
• MEI-70301 Simulation of Flight and Aircraft Systems.

Your primary role will be to participate in the planning and execution of the curriculum in collaboration with the Mechatronics Research Group. You are expected to plan, prepare and organize teaching, supervise BSc and MSc theses and act as a tutor for the students. You will work in a multidisciplinary and international environment where the interest in developing teaching methods and students’ learning experience are highly appreciated. We have modern teaching and research facilities and we encourage employees to actively seek professional growth, for example, by attending pedagogical training courses available at the University. Although the position is teaching oriented, you will also participate in research as well.

Requirements

Candidates for the position of University Lecturer must hold an applicable doctoral degree and for the position of University Instructor an applicable higher university degree. We especially appreciate broad expertise and practical experience in the field of the position, pedagogical skills and merits, the ability to produce teaching materials and use versatile teaching methods. We also appreciate international working experience.

We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious teacher with proficiency to carry out goal-oriented work, good organization and co-operation skills and high-class skills to deliver oral and written presentations. Proficiency in English is required and proficiency in Finnish is an advantage, to ensure high-quality education and academic supervision to students and co-operation with the industry.

Furthermore, we expect candidates appointed to a teaching-oriented position to have completed a minimum of 10 credits of pedagogical studies intended for university teachers or other equivalent studies. If you have not completed these studies when joining the University, we expect you to complete them within two years from the beginning of the employment.

We offer

The position will be filled for a fixed three-year term, commencing as mutually agreed. Appointments will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a trial period of 6 months.

The salary is based on job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of University Lecturer is placed on job demand levels 6-7 and University Instructor on levels 5-6. In addition, employees receive performance-based salary.
