Communications Manager 

Are you a creative communicator with a passion for education, innovation and social media? 

We are looking for a Communications Manager (maternity leave replacement 16.3.–31.12.2020) to manage the communication activities for DigiEduHack, with a special emphasis on developing our outreach and engagement in social media. In this position you will have the chance to make an impact through pan-European and global communications activities. You will also be in charge of developing and executing the communications and marketing activities for Aalto University’s EIT projects.

DigiEduHack is an EIT initiative under the European Commission’s Digital Education Action Plan, led by EIT Climate KIC and coordinated by Aalto University. DigiEduHack represents a pioneering way to collect intelligence on key trends arising from digital transformation in education and learning. DigiEduHack helps organizations identify key challenges for education in the digital age and co-create innovative solutions across disciplines and organizations. In 2019, DigiEduHack events were organized in 33 locations in 21 countries across the globe with 1700 participants.

Your role and goals

You will be in charge of planning and implementing communications & marketing activities for the DigiEduHack project in Europe and beyond, while also supporting global partner organizations in their communication efforts. You will deliver targeted communications to key audiences with the aim of creating enthusiasm and engagement for organizing and participating in DigiEduHack events around the globe.

Key responsibilities

  • Executing the Communications and Social Media Content Plan for DigiEduHack 2020
  • Executing the Communications Plan for Aalto EIT Services in 2020
  • Creative content creation and outreach in our social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and regular social media analytics
  • Planning and executing global marketing promotion campaigns (social media and other channels)
  • Developing, designing and maintaining communications & marketing materials and templates such as flyers, event information leaflets, newsletters, slide decks, infographics, rollups, posters, ads and project narratives
  • Website development and content creation
  • Video creation
  • Drafting and planning high quality press materials and templates, including case studies, press releases, blog articles, biographies, opinion pieces and PR activities
  • Supporting partner organizations promoting their hackathon events
  • Editorial and graphic design support where required
  • Writing, proof-reading, brand, design and media content production
  • Reporting and analytics throughout the year 

Your network and team

You will work in the Aalto EIT Services team, closely together with the DigiEduHack Project Manager and the three EIT Services Project Managers, as well as colleagues from partner organizations. You will help coordinate and market the projects across partners, sponsors and the EIT Innovation Communities. You will work in the Aalto EIT Services team in Espoo, Finland.  

Your experience and ambitions

We expect you to have

  • A Degree in a communications related field
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills, fluency in other European languages; Finnish is an advantage.
  • 3–5 years experience with sound all-round marketing and communications skills, working to drive positive change
  • Experience in communications management in international projects and/or campaigns
  • Excellent project management skills with a solid track record of complex organisational projects and delivered results
  • Competent IT and graphic design skills, including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere), Social Media tools and analytics tools
  • Solid track record of social media content creation, campaign creation and outreach
  • Photography skills and video production experience
  • Web development experience
  • Ability to produce a range of journalistic articles, press releases and ad copy
  • Journalistic background is an advantage
  • A solid understanding of how to coach and mentor others in effective communication is an advantage
  • Experience working within an educational context and/or university context is an advantage
  • Skills in Facebook Ads Manager and Google AdWords is an advantage
  • Ability to absorb complex information, synthesise and distil into communications-friendly messages and calls to action
  • Ability to work in a complex and international network of organizations
  • Positive, sociable and creative approach
