The Department of Chemistry, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking for    

3 Doctoral students, chemistry, beginning August 1, 2020 or as agreed, the maximum length of the employment contract is four years.

Department of chemistry is known for high-level research and teaching (https://www.jyu.fi/science/en/chemistry) and in the latest academic ranking of world universities, it was ranked between 210 – 300.The main strength areas of the department are chemical nanoscience, functional molecules and materials, chemistry in circular economy, and chemistry education. Moreover, the department is a member of the Nanoscience Center of University of Jyväskylä, which promotes interdisciplinary research projects in nanoscience. The department has world-class laboratory infrastructure and large-scale computational resources.      

The tasks of a Doctoral student focus on research concerning doctoral thesis, doctoral studies, assisting teaching tasks and other tasks connected to these tasks.     

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of Doctoral student are in accordance with the University of Jyväskylä Regulations. The selected person must also fulfill language requirements set for the selection of PhD students. Different options to fulfill these requirements will be communicated to the selected persons.   

The eligible candidate for the Doctoral student position should have, or be about to obtain, a suitable degree and background in natural sciences. In addition, the Doctoral student must have a permission for post-graduate studies at the University of Jyväskylä. If the applicant does not have permission for post-graduate studies, it must be applied with a separate application procedure from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science after selection for the position.     

The initial salary of a doctoral student is approximately 2200 € / month. As the dissertation work progresses, the salary will be revised in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System.     

A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.

1.  An informal cover letter (highly important) (max 1 page), outlining the motivation for applying for the Doctoral student position, strength area in which the applicant  wants to carry out her/his PhD studies, and the name of the potential   supervisor.    

2. Curriculum vitae, composed according to good scientific practice and considering the template for researcher´s curriculum vitae by The Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity    

3. Degree certificates or transcript of academic records if the applicant has not graduated yet.
