Position title: Head of Communications & Marketing, Nokia Technologies
Description of the position
Responsible for delivering proactive and reactive stakeholder campaigns to help protect existing TECH business, generate awareness of Nokia’s TECH value and support business growth.
The role holder will lead message development, develop and deliver proactive communications plans and ensure alignment across other areas of Nokia with key messages around topics such as innovatrion and 5G.
They will work in an agile fashion, managing a virtual team of communication professionals from centralized shared communications services, including media relations and internal communications, to create and deliver required communications materials.
The role holder will ensure that the executive communications needs of TECH are proactively met.
The role is set up as a matrixed role. It has a direct functional reporting line into the VP of Corporate Communications to ensure alignment of communications across the whole of Nokia, consistent quality of deliverables, skills development and career progression. It takes its primary direction for planning purposes from TECH and is also embedded in the BG to ensure deep industry knowledge.
The role is likely to be split 70% external, 30% internal.
As this is a senior role, the role holder will also be expected to contribute to coaching and developing other members of the communications function and hold some responsibility for delivering the Corporate Communications strategy as well as the BG strategy.
Roles / Responsibilities:
Design, plan and deliver clear plans with thoughtful messaging, designed to protect existing business in Standard Essential Patents and attract new licensees.
Work with colleagues across the business to develop and execute a BTL communications strategy for key IPR stakeholders including a proactive media and influencer plan that highlights our leading position in 5G patents.
Lead message development and media activities concerning litigation cases.
Act as authoritative source of IP data points, for example, timely provision of IP licencing numbers to comms teams for use in quarterly communications.
Lead coordination of essential marketing communications materials and outreach, leveraging the Brand and Marketing Comms team for execution.
Ensure crisp relevant and current content on all outreach channels incl web, social media, speaker briefings, relevant events etc.
Develop compelling content that resonates with global business and trade media, and other external influencers.
Build and develop media relations with key media that cover technology innovation stories.
Ensure internal advocacy and awareness around key messages
Ensure clear innovation and technology licensing messaging for Nokia is visible in the market and with key stakeholders
Ensure sensible measurement around all campaigns. Benchmark to be set on entering the role
Design, plan and deliver the TECH President’s communication requirements, building a strong working relationship with them and acting as trusted counsel. TECH President communications could include, but not be limited to, executive narrative, speeches and presentations.
Convert sometimes complex technical, commercial and operational elements into compelling stories
Ensure BG communications are inspirational and encourage 2-way comms rather than being purely “broadcast”
Plan and manage available resources to deliver the BG communications plan. This will be done in an agile / virtual team fashion as per the explanation above
Develop shared working practises with other BG Comms heads and Corp Comms heads that enable alignment of resources on priority programmes
Act as an inspirational internal company spokesperson
Experience:
10-15 year relevant communications experience
Excellent written and verbal communications skills (in English) with a notable ability to convert complex ideas into compelling stories
Proven ability to deliver key messages in an innovative fashion that encourages maximum engagement
Experience in leading CEO / President / MD communications
Experience in collaborating with senior management and building extensive networks
Strong process and governance experience
Experience of working in an agile fashion / matrix system preferable
Experience in delivering creative and engaging communications campaigns
Experience in crisis management
Clear understanding of business impact of communications
Experience working in a large, international company
Experience working with legal or similar sector would be a plus
