The Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking to recruit staff for the position of

Research Coordinator for a fixed-term of 1 May 2020 or as agreed, to 30 April 2021.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Science conducts internationally acclaimed research and provides top-level teaching in all the areas of mathematics and science it represents. In this faculty, new ideas are developed and shared with the community and experts building the future in both Finland and abroad are educated. The faculty has defined as its core research areas evolution research, mathematical analysis, multidisciplinary nanoscience, resource wisdom, and subatomic physics.

As a research coordinator you will have a versatile work description:

  • You will participate in planning and realizing the research strategy of one core research area
  • You will assist in funding applications for international research networks projects and help coordinate them
  • You will coordinate and develop international and national collaboration networks of your core research area
  • You will participate in communicating about the research done within your core research area
  • You will influence the decision making about future national and international funding schemes

You will work in close contact with the vice dean responsible for research and the director of your core research area. In the beginning, your position will be in the Nanoscience Center responsible for the research done on multidisciplinary nanoscience. Later your tasks may also relate to other core research areas in the faculty.

Nanoscience Center (NSC) at the University of Jyväskylä is an interdisciplinary research organization where physicists, chemists and biologists work together to study nature at the nanoscale. Nanoscience Center forms an international scientific community with around 30 research groups and around 140 researchers and includes several distinguished renowned scientists. Its research projects span from the fundamental investigations of processes in nanoscale structures to the development of commercial products. Nanoscience Center takes care of one of the profiling areas of the University of Jyväskylä – nanoscience. Its form of combining researchers from three disciplines is unique in Finland, and worldwide there are only a few comparable organizations.

We are seeking a person with

  • A doctoral degree in mathematics or natural sciences
  • Good organizing and coordinating skills
  • Experience from research collaborations and individual research after the doctoral degree and from applying for research funding
  • Good communication skills both in English and in Finnish
  • Good computing skills related to visualization and communications

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Scientific Coordinator are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelinesThe research coordinator is required to have a good command of the Finnish language and a good command of English.

Your monthly salary in the beginning will be between 3800 and 4400 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.

  3. A short (2-3 pages) description of applicant’s merits of received external funding (applications and success in applying, applicant´s share of the funding) and those related to coordinating or organizing activities
  4. A list of publications

The motivation letter should be in English. The other appendices may be either in English or in Finnish.
