Description of position

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with background in life sciences to work at early stage drug discovery as Research Scientist. The position is fixed-term for about one year until February 2021 and it is located in Turku.

You will work as a part of Molecule Profiling team focusing on screening and characterizing of potential new medicines by in vitro methods. You will do hands-on laboratory work from cell culture to sample preparation and analysis, your primary responsibilities being

  • Development, optimization, validation and running of quantitative cell-based assays to support small and large molecule drug discovery
  • Participating in automation of assays together with automation team
  • Analyze, interpret and report out assay data in a timely manner with an emphasis on quality and reproducibility
  • Plan and execute both routine and one-off laboratory experiments employing established internal and published procedures with a high degree of independence
  • Make recommendations for changes to experimental procedures to improve quality, reproducibility and productivity as appropriate
  • Contribute to written and oral presentations both internal and external purposes

Description of unit

Molecule Profiling unit in Global Medicine Design Function is responsible for translating new drug targets to new therapeutics together with other line functions in Orion R&D. We are providing assay services and scientific expertise in in vitro pharmacology, toxicology and ADME for all discovery projects in-house, supporting our three therapy areas, CNS, Oncology and Rare Diseases. As an expert of your own field you will be a member of multi-disciplinary team jointly innovating and developing new treatments for the patients.

Requirements

We expect you to have thorough experience with cell culture and immortalized cell lines, open-minded attitude, enthusiasm towards new technology, and good problem-solving and communication skills. Additionally, it is beneficial, if you have

  • Degree in life sciences (MSc/PhD in cell biology, biochemistry or similar)
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques in cell and molecular biology
  • Experience in cellular imaging and imaging devices such as Incucyte
  • Hands-on experience with Alphalisa and thermal-shift assay
  • Strong computer skills and experience with some data analysis software
  • Experience with laboratory automation and acoustic dispensers
