University lecturer of Molecular genetics for 1.9.2020-31.8.2025

The post is located in the program of Physiology and Genetics at the Department of Biology. The department provides an international scientific environment, performs excellently in terms of academic indicators in research and education, and holds a high profile in terms of outreach to the general public. Research in the Department of Biology covers organizational levels from molecules and cells to populations and ecosystems. The Department runs one BSc and three MSc degree programs.

Successful candidate has PhD from a suitable field and prominent teaching skills, including supervision of degrees. The assessment of candidates is based on scientific expertise on their field and experience in teaching, pedagogic education, skills in producing study materials, as well as other merits in teaching, and a demonstration lecture. In addition, a research plan for the duration of the post will be taken into account. 

The field of teaching is genetics, especially molecular genetics. The duties of the University lecturer include teaching in the BSc program in Biology and MSc program in Physiology and genetics, including laboratory courses. The university lecturer participates in the development of courses, does student counseling, and supervises and evaluates BSc and MSc theses. In addition, university lecturer may also participate in the supervision of PhD students. In addition to the research and teaching, other departmental or university duties may be included to the post.

Successful candidate carries out experimental research in the field of molecular or microbial genetics, or molecular or cell biology, including bioinformatics related to these fields. The applicant has to have a solid track record on the methodology on some of these fields, and also ability to further method development.

The qualification requirements of the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure.

The salary for the task is based on the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary is at levels 5–7 on the job demands chart, where the task specific salary component is 2967,84 -3989,91 euro per month. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal performance component is a 6%–50% of the task-specific base salary.

The positions is subject to a six-month trial period.

Possible public teaching demonstrations will be held in August 2020.
