By now you are familiar with OP as one of THE formidable destinations for software developers and architects in Finland. With all of the layoffs and YT and fewer companies hiring during this global pandemic, I’ll bet you are thinking twice about which industries are <stable> and even growing? At the beginning of 2019, we embarked on an ambitious company-wide Agile transformation, which has gone swimmingly. Then we added an important twist to concentrate on building a developer culture, thereby bringing technical alignment to our goal of autonomy. No niin: Tribe: Home Loans. Looking at the mobile part of Home Loans, we were the first ‘project’ a couple years ago to undertake our whole company Agile Transformation / OP Ketterä! We basically made it possible to apply for a loan in a matter of minutes, also using AI to help conclude if someone has enough credibility to get the loan. We are in fact one of the first banks in Finland to digitize this field in finance. As a company, we are extremely proud of what this tribe has done!

So, anyway, we have 130 people, and we are reliably and steadily bringing the money in to OP. Although a big tribe, our system entity is not that complex as in many other parts of OP. Out of 900 systems here, only 28 are in the scope of this Tech Lead role. The tech stack is also not too broad and does not have much legacy elements in it. The general nature is big volume, quite business critical, and needs to be maintainable and working steadily.

Just like in other Tribes, every team in this tribe has a Lead Developer. So as Tech Lead you will be the bridge between enterprise architecture and development.

Day to day:
As Tech Lead Home Loans (the internal title) you will take care of 3 major things:

1) is architectural decisions from our architects. You will bring that to our Lead Developers, who are the ones implementing that architectural guidelines and cornerstones. Here you will essentially be building and implementing the tribe’s technology roadmap.

2) is to manage or reduce the technical depth of our systems. Partly architectural and partly tech manager role, you will turn these architectural cornerstones into technologies and an implementable roadmap. This can then be followed by different teams in the tribe. In principle, this is to get rid of legacy systems, while maintaining them too, always some kind of small development here and there. If we put something to the cloud, for example, then you are the one who should be discussing this with our Lead Developers, which parts of this system can be transferred to the cloud, etc. AWS is crucial here.

3) right now is the transfers, HI project (Hybrid Infrastructure), transferring all servers from Tieto to someone else. As Tech Lead you will manage this. Part of maintaining the capabilities, these rather big changes. This is partly related to reducing technical depth, in a way. We are transferring servers from one place to another.

Requirements:
Combined experience as SW architect, System Architect, Solution Architect and Enterprise Architect
Experience from software delivery
Enterprise Agile understanding
Cloud Migration, AWS
Architectural cornerstone implementation, managing ceremonies, pushing for ceremonies with Lead Developers etc
General understanding of DevOps
Early experience in hands-on coding in Java, React
Strong skills as networker, you are a natural with people

You are a middle man/woman between Lead Developer and Enterprise Architect. You are someone who grounds enterprise architects and pushes for Lead Developers to understand the whole big picture. You are a kind of Technical Manager who wants to deal with different technologies, and you like people enough to lead them without being their boss, and lastly, you want to implement something!

You will work with Lead Developers, Enterprise Architects, IT Area Lead, and Business Leads. You have impressive networking capabilities to work closely with all of these groups of highly talented people. Considering this is a cross between development, architecture and business, your networking abilities might actually be superhuman! Don’t be afraid to show us this skill when you meet us. And fear not, with such diverse stakeholders, they are all working towards the same goal (just from different angles).

You are excited about new ways of thinking, and looking at different levels of details from the general to the minute.

Our Process this Summer:
Our recruitment team is working actively throughout July, so we will be setting up calls with you to get to know you!
