We are now looking for a Legal Counsel to join our team and advise us on employment and labor related matters. In this role you will report directly to the EVP, Human Resources as well as via dotted line to the Deputy General Counsel of Wärtsilä Corporation.  

In your work, you will be focusing on:

  • Providing legal advice on a variety of employment related matters on a global basis, related to e.g. international employment and labour law, including claims and handling of employment related cases
  • Managing and providing support on employment-related projects that require coordination and consultation with cross-functional teams including Human Resources, Compliance, and Internal Audit
  • Partnering with our data privacy experts internally and driving GDPR compliance within HR
  • Managing and supporting HR compliance, employee escalations, privileged internal investigations, and compliance audits
  • Collaborating effectively across the organisation, your main colleagues being within HR and our legal departments
  • Monitoring legislation, regulations, case law, and government enforcement activities relating to the above substantive legal areas, and providing proactive, strategic legal advice regarding labour and employment to relevant stakeholders
  • Creating, contributing to and implementing group-level directives and instructions
  • Drafting and providing advisory on employment-related documents and processes as well as developing scalable training solutions
  • Contributing to the formulation of HR contract and other document templates used in co-ordination with HR local operations
  • Raising awareness around relevant employment related matters within Wärtsilä, designing trainings on contractual and legal aspects and contributing to similar initiatives from other experts
  • Supporting negotiations with HR related suppliers and contractors together with Indirect Purchasing

About You

We are looking for an experienced legal expert who is a proactive, independent thinker with international HR experience and a strong business sense.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • A law degree, preferably Master’s level, with a focus on employment and labor law and/or international HR management related issues
  • Solid experience in the legal aspects of international HR management, on Europe level as well as ideally from Asia or the Americas
  • Excellent negotiation and communications skills
  • Demonstrated fluency in English (other language skills can be an advantage)
  • Ability to develop strong and productive partnerships with colleagues in HR, business and legal
  • Good understanding of the developments within employment, labor law and privacy matters internationally and a genuine interest in staying abreast of any future developments
  • Proactive working style with solution-oriented mindset
  • An eye for details combined with big picture understanding
  • Ability to work in an international, multicultural environment
