Computational biologist / Bioinformatician in the field of functional genomics and cancer research (available immediately)

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for working in the field of functional epigenomics in cancer research and transcriptional regulation. The focus of the lab is to investigate the interplay between transcription factors and oncogenes using modern genome-wide methods for regulatory genomic features and chromatin architecture. The group belongs to the Applied Tumor Genomics Program in the Research Programs Unit of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki providing an excellent research environment with strong focus on cancer research. The center is very well equipped with modern facilities and supported with core facilities for genomics, next generation sequencing, proteomics, imaging etc. We offer a position in an ambitious, multi-disciplinary and well-resourced group that is comprised of both wet-lab and computational scientists (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/enhancer-biology).

The candidate should have a PhD / Master’s degree in any field of computer science, bioinformatics or life sciences with expertise in computational data analysis and strong motivation towards biomedical research. Prior experience in analysis of high-throughput genome-wide omics datasets from next-generation sequencing methods is desirable. Candidates should have a strong background in programming languages (Perl, Python, R etc.) and ones with proven track record in terms of publications will be given preference. A good understanding of biochemistry, genomics experiments and bioinformatics is expected. The ideal candidates will be involved in computational analysis and integration of functional genomics datasets such as ATAC-seq, Hi-C, ChIP-seq, single-cell genomics as well as genome-wide CRISPR-based approaches.

With English as a working language, excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Salaries are based on the salary system for Finnish universities (YPJ) in the range of 40,000 – 45,000 euros per annum for post-docs and 25,000 – 28,000 euros for PhD students depending on experience level, and a six-month trial period will be applied.
