The Faculty of Medicine is seeking a

LABORATORY ENGINEER – Biomedical Imaging (Core Facility)

to the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) research infrastructure Biomedicum Imaging Unit for a permanent position. The full-time position will be filled as soon as possible, or as agreed. A trial period of 6 months will be applied.

Biomedicum Imaging Unit (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/infrastructures/bioimaging/biomedicum-imaging...) operates at Biomedicum Helsinki, Faculty of Medicine, and as part of the HiLIFE bioimaging infrastructures (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/infrastructures/bioimaging). The Faculty of Medicine, together with HiLIFE and the Helsinki University Hospital, constitute an academic medical center ranking among the top 10 medical campuses in Europe and among the top 50 globally.

Biomedicum Imaging Unit offers state-of-the art light microscopy imaging services locally for about 250 researchers from over 80 research groups, as well as for other national, international and non-academic customers. It offers a broad range of techniques, and provides user training and education in microscopy and bioimage analysis. The main duties of the laboratory engineer are related to the services provided by the unit, i.e. instrument maintenance, user training, support, and education, and day to day core facility management, including participation in billing and further development of the unit.

The candidate should have a suitable master’s degree or equivalent skills in Life/Natural Sciences, Engineering or related fields. Prior experience in biological or medical imaging technologies, a co-operative attitude and good communication skills and command of English language are required. A strong motivation to learn and keep up with new imaging techniques is essential. Previous experience of fluorescence and confocal microscopy, use of image analysis software (incl. basic scripting skills), and prior work experience in a research core facility are favourable.
