Faculty of Information Technology is currently seeking to fulfill
2-8 Postdoctoral Researcher level positions as of 4 January 2021 or as agreed for maximum of four years
(contract length maximum of four years, 2nd term contracts maximum of two years)

The Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä is the first and largest in its field in Finland. A Mission of the Faculty is to create science based digital future. In research, education and stakeholder collaboration, the Faculty combines comprehensively the viewpoints of technology, information, organizations, business and people. The IT Faculty employs 180 people and, currently, there are 2400 undergraduate students and 150 postgraduate students. Teaching is given both in Finnish and in English.

The duties of the Postdoctoral Researcher include research tasks specific to the researcher’s own area of research within one of the faculty`s research groups, high-level publishing productivity as well as productivity in research projects and procuring research funding. The research of the Postdoctoral Researcher is expected to strenghten the academic work and publishing profile of the faculty`s research groups. Teaching and supervision of master theses in Fininish as well as in English are also regarded as an essantial part of the work of Postdoctoral Researcher.

The Postdoctoral Researchers are recruited for the faculty’s main research areas: information systems, mathematical information technology (inc. data communication), education technology and cognitive sciences and unifying development and profiling areas: cyber security, computational sciences and data-analytics/ computational thinking and decision-making, software development and software business.

The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have good skills in English language.

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D in the field of Information Technology. We value applicants that have ambition and ability to high-level publishing and active participation in procuring research funding, strong interest to research work as well as teaching and supervising master theses. Some of the positions require an ability to teach fluently both in Finnish and in English whereas in some of the positions excellent English skills are considered sufficient.
 
The salary of a successful candidate will be based on level 5-6 of of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary will be between 3100-4400 EUR/month depending on the qualifications and experience of  the candidate.

A trial period of six months will be used when the positions are first filled.
