The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is currently seeking to recruit an 

Senior Lecturer, Communication, from May 1st 2020 until further notice. 

The Senior Lecturer’s position is allocated to the Department of Language and Communication Studies to the discipline of Communication. Communication is a popular, academic discipline, focusing on communication behaviour and dynamics of social interaction both in face-to-face and technology-mediated contexts. The key focus area in the discipline is interpersonal and group communication in working life. In teaching and research, interpersonal relationships in organisations, groups, teams and networks, technology-mediated and organisational communication, communication and well-being, persuasion and argumentation, communication competence as well as communication ethics are being examined. 

Together with co-workers, the Senior Lecturer is responsible for teaching and research of communication. The Senior Lecturer is expected to conduct high-level teaching and scientific research in areas that support the teaching and research profile of the department. Expertise in interpersonal communication, communication in groups, teams and organisations, communication competence and communication development in organisations, as well as methodological competence in the area of communication is emphasized in the position. The duties of Senior Lecturer also include supervision of theses, planning new research projects and acquiring external research funding.   

Previous experience in teaching and research in the area of communication is required. In addition, research activities in the area of interpersonal relationships, group and team communication and organisational communication are regarded as a merit. 

The duties and qualification requirements for the position are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. In this position, the main language of instruction is Finnish. Excellent Finnish and good English skills are thus required. The ability to teach in English is regarded an asset. 

The annual salary range will be approximately 38.800 – 64.200 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. 

Six months trial period is applied to the filling of the position.

Following documents must be included to the electronic recruiting system: 

  1. A CV composed according to good scientific practice and considering, when possible, the template for researcher´s curriculum vitae of the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (TENK);
  2. Short (2-3 pages) explanation of the applicant’s pedagogical training and teaching merits i.e. teaching portfolio;
  3. Short (2-3 pages) explanation of the applicant’s research activities and merits in scientific work and supervision of research including acquisition of supplement funding and responsibilities in externally funded research projects,
  4. A numbered list of publications covering the applicant’s scientific and other publications according to the instructions of the Academy of Finland
  5. A maximum of ten publications, which must be numbered according to the list of publications.
