A hyper growth company built with a strong technological foundation will still have its scalability issues when you go from a million users to 7 million in the space of two years. We are now looking for our first ever Database Administrator to take a gentle hold of our PostgreSQL databases, and understand their inner workings. Our engineers are quite equipped in writing services against our databases, as that is one of the hiring criterias. However we're now looking for someone to really have an in-depth understanding of our PostgreSQL databases and their underlying concepts, making sure we are using them in an optimal way and that they scale with us. 

You'll be monitoring and following the databases to find potential problems, and also work as an evangelist for database optimization and best practices within the organization, towards all of our (almost 20) engineering teams. You'll be working closely with your DevOps colleagues within the Platform team, as well as our Performance Engineer. You'll need to be able to communicate well, and coach your fellow engineers to better DB practices. 

We expect you to have extensive expertise in PostgreSQL but also appreciate experience in other SQL or Document databases, for example MongoDB.  

- Data and schema modeling, partitioning and sharding

- Scalability and capacity planning

- Resource usage analysis (I/O, memory, etc)

- Performance optimization and monitoring

- Optimizing indexes, queries, parameters and locking

- HA and backup/restore procedures

- Automation and tooling for DBs

We hope you’re familiar with database service providers such as AWS or Aiven You'd also have worked in an environment with Python or JVM languages in use. We hope you have worked in an always-on, high growth environment where you've experienced rapid scaling and continuous deployment.
