The Department of Agricultural Sciences invites applications for

DOCTORAL STUDENT

with an interest in performing research in the area of identification and mapping invasive species among cultivated crops. The employment is scheduled to commence in November 2020. The funding is applied on yearly basis and the project is planned to last at least three years. The work will be conducted in the Agrotechnology research group (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/agrotechnology). The purpose of the doctoral research is to assess detectability of chosen invasive species using remotely sensed datasets with differing spectral, spatial and temporal resolutions, permitting assessment of feasibility and effectiveness of detecting each species.
Depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience, the salary is 2200–3000 euros/month. A trial period of 6 months will be applied.

Requirements:
• Applicant should have a strong academic record with a background in software and analytical techniques, computation, remote sensing, and machine learning.
• Good programming skills are expected, for example, MATLAB and Python.
• Prior knowledge of unmanned aerial drones (UAVs) is desired
• Applicant is expected to be able to act independently as well as to collaborate effectively with members of a larger team.
• Eligibility for doctoral studies. Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
