Description of position

Orion's Immuno-Oncology (IO) research team is looking to recruit an in vivo Research Assistant to join our newly established IO team on permanent basis. In this newly established role, you will contribute to the in vivo studies and unit's technical excellence coupled with being responsible for supporting IO Research Scientist for in vivo experiments and ensuring the highest standard of testing environment. In addition, tasks include supporting also other in vivo studies performed within Oncology Research department.

The responsibilities of this role include the following (including, but not limited to);

  • Ensuring the health and welfare of animals in accordance with the local rules and regulations.
  • Performing a wide range of pharmacological in vivo techniques complying with the local Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act and the associated Codes of Practice for the Housing and Care of the Animals used in Scientific Procedures.
  • Assisting in planning and conducting experimental treatment studies in in vivo disease models.
  • Performing pre-clinical in vivo studies according to the scientist's guidance, study plans, and Standard Operating Procedure(s) (SOP).
  • Performing in vivo studies to test novel drugs' safety, tolerability, PK/PD, efficacy and mechanism of action studies in tumor and non-tumor bearing rodents.
  • Maintaining high quality, accurate records in accordance with the appropriate regulatory standards.
  • Working in close collaboration with scientists, other in vivo technicians and animal caretakers on a daily basis.
  • Working unsupervised with support from management regularly.
  • Participating in occasional weekend and holiday cover for the in vivo unit.
  • Supporting in vivo needs across the Oncology research organization.

 

Description of Unit
Immuno-Oncology (IO) is a newly established team and one of three Research teams in Orion's Oncology R&D. IO team is accountable for novel drug discovery projects, identification and validation of potential IO drug targets with state-of-the-art laboratories and tech­no­lo­gies.

Requirements

To be a successful in vivo Research Assistant, ideally you should have the following educational and professional work experiences:

  • A suitable degree such as biotechnology engineer, medical laboratory technologist, biomedical laboratory scientist or laboratory technician or in related discpline.
  • Basic knowledge on pharmacology as well as practical experience on experimental pharmaceutical research.
  • Qualification for carrying out procedures on animals is mandatory.
  • Concrete hands-on experience working within an animal laboratory facility.
  • Strong in vivo research experience especially using mouse syngeneic and xenograft tumor models.
  • Technical competence that includes rodent handling, injections (IV, IP, SC, and PO), palpation, bleeding, tissue harvest and ex vivo analysis methods.
  • Competency in use of standard office software.
  • Ability to carry out routine tasks and procedures under instruction and organise own daily tasks.
  • Excellent attention to details with strong communication skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques as a member of the research team.
