The Faculty of Science invites applications for the position of Professor or Associate Professor (tenure track) of Theoretical Physics. Candidates for the Full / Associate professorship should have a distinguished academic career with an established international recognition in their fields, as well as an excellent publications record and previous success in acquiring external research funding.

The candidates are expected to have internationally acknowledged expertise in the research area of Quantum Physics and it is presumed that their research has connections to or complements the work by established groups at the department. We expect that the candidates are active members of academic networks with established collaboration and have formed societal contacts necessary for outreach activities.

The appointed professor is expected to co-operate with other research groups and to obtain external research funding at both domestic and international level. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the teaching at all levels, and to conduct and supervise scientific research.

The appointed professor will be the Head of the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics and is expected to acquire administrative duties at the departmental and/or university level.

 The Department of Physics and Astronomy has three focus research areas: 1) theoretical quantum physics, 2) space physics and astronomy and 3) materials research. Currently there are nine professors and altogether the department consists of about hundred people. In physical sciences, there are approximately 400 undergraduate students and over 60 doctoral students.

The position is subject to a six-month trial period.

The salary for this particular post is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel (YPJ). The salary shall be determined when drawing up the employment contract.
