Three Professors or Assistant / Associate Professors in Mechanical Engineering

We are looking for three innovative Professors or Assistant / Associate Professors (tenure track) in Mechanical Engineering who want to join us in building a new strategic area of expertise at the University of Turku. The professorships are positioned at the Faculty of Technology in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Intented starting date is Aug 1st 2021, but is negotiable.

We are looking for technology experts who contribute to establishing a new field of research and education within our university in collaboration with experts from technology and natural sciences, economics, law, health sciences, and experts from other fields.
The application period has been extended until 22 April 2021 with the aim to strengthen the applicant pool in the areas of electric power transmission and Industry 4.0. We are now looking especially for candidates whose research and teaching record are in the fields of electric power transmission or Industry 4.0:
- Electric power transmission of heavy machinery - in particular battery cluster and other energy reservoir related items: dimensioning, simulation, cooling and system control of heavy machinery or other topics related to electric power transmission of heavy machinery or renewable energy systems.
- Theories and applications of Industry 4.0, digitalization of industry and digital twins: Methods of modelling and managing the life cycle (design, manufacturing and operation) of large systems such as ships and process industry plants.
The successful applicants may be appointed to a fixed-term associate / assistant professorship (tenure track) or a permanent full professorship depending on their previous academic merits.
For the position of Assistant Professor, we seek proactive researchers and teachers beyond their post doc phase yet still at their early academic career, and who already have a proven track record of scientific research. For the position of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor, we emphasize a proven international track record of scientific research, teaching experience and societal influence. In addition to these, we value proof of acquiring external research funding and business collaboration. For the position of Associate Professor, and particularly for the position of Full Professor, we seek experienced and internationally renowned experts who already have an excellent publication record and success in acquiring external research funding.
We are building a diverse team and appreciate applicants with different backgrounds. We value, for example, broad academic, professional and societal networks, societal impact and outreach activities, industry or entrepreneurial experience and multidisciplinary collaboration. For all positions, we require an active approach and genuine enthusiasm for teaching and the educational development. Experience and education in areas such as coaching, leadership or project management are also considered an asset.

The salary for this particular post is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel (YPJ) when negotiating the employment contract. The position is subject to a six-month trial period.
