The Department of Chemistry, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking to recruit a candidate for the position of

DOCTORAL RESEARCHER, CHEMISTRY

starting on June 1st, 2021 or as agreed for a maximum of four years.

Qualifications we are looking for

The successful applicant will be working in the research group of Prof. Karoliina Honkala in a project focusing on heterogeneously catalyzed organic and inorganic reactions over metal surfaces and at metal-oxide interfaces. The goal is to understand how different factors such as a chemical composition and structure of a catalyst influence the activity and selectivity of a catalyst employing density functional theory calculations and microkinetic simulations. Proven knowledge on computational chemistry, density functional theory, and modeling of reactions constitute a clear advantage.

The tasks of a Doctoral Researcher focus on research regarding the completion of a doctoral thesis in the University of Jyväskylä, on doctoral studies, and on assisting teaching tasks as well as other related tasks. The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of Doctoral Researchers are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines (Doctoral Students). A good command of English is required.

We are looking for the most promising researchers who have recently completed their Master's degree or are about to complete it. For the position of Doctoral Researcher, a Master's degree certificate in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Physics is required to be sent to the University of Jyväskylä before the start of the employment. Applicants may also apply if their Master's degree is near complition during the application period. The Doctoral Researcher must additionally apply to the doctoral school of the University of Jyväskylä and be accepted as a doctoral student of chemistry.

The annual salary will be approximately 28,000 EUR for the Doctoral Researcher (gross income, including holiday bonus). As the thesis work progresses, the salary will be revised in accordance with the collective agreement of Finnish Education Employers. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.
