We are now looking for a TRAINEE for Biodiversity Informatics Unit at Finnish Museum of Natural History.

Your main task as a trainee is to participate in the digitization of the national natural history collections of Finnish Museum of Natural history by using different digitizing methods.

We expect you to have experience using Microsoft Excel and handling of the scientific specimens (e.g. pinned insects, herbarium sheets) is considered as an advantage.

Understanding of biodiversity occurrence and collection data helps the candidate to get quickly familiar with the work. The trainee must be fluent in English; no knowledge of Finnish is required.

We offer you an excellent opportunity to see beyond the museum exhibitions and get a deep understanding of the natural history collections, their curation, digitization and what it takes to be able to share the data as open data following FAIR-principles.

Our unit has wide range expertise in ICT development, biodiversity information and digitization of data. This provides the trainee an overview on how Research Infrastructures function.

The duration of a traineeship is from September 1st to December 31st, 2021 (four months) of part-time (50%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €700 per month for a part-time (50%) trainee.
