ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR in Leadership in the field of education, tenure track

The position starts on the 1st of October 2021 or as soon as possible after that. Assistant Professor’s position is defined for a fixed-term of 3 to 5 years and a position of Associate Professor is defined for a fixed-term of 5 years (according to the tenure track model).

Tasks and qualifications

The Assistant / Associate Professor is responsible for research and teaching tasks related to the research area of leadership in the field of education. We expect evidence of international level scientific research. We are looking for an individual carrying out research with links to current areas of strength of the faculty and department in the area of educational leadership. However, the recruited Assistant/Associate professor should also be capable to bring new directions to research, and develop the area as an educational discipline and position educational leadership as a scientific discipline. As the current position is situated in the Department of Educational Sciences in has connections to the department’s existing research and training of educational leaders and principals in the field of education.

The qualification requirements for the position include doctoral degree in Educational Sciences or an applicable degree. We expect strong evidence of international-level scientific research and publishing, international networking, research funding, and teaching and supervision of theses. We expect, in particular, evidence of research on leadership in the field of education and development of the discipline of educational leadership through conceptualization of the area.

Research experience or expertise of a successful applicant may have links to the following areas or themes, e.g. learning of personnel and communities, research on development of leadership capabilities, leading of educational organisations, societal analysis of core tasks of education. Assets considered in evaluation of candidates is networking and impact in the areas of research, training or development of educational leadership, work life or adult learning. Pedagogical training is also considered an asset in evaluation of candidates.

An Assistant / Associate Professor’s duties include teaching at the basic, subject and advanced levels in the field of the position and related developmental tasks. Administrative tasks and other academic responsibilities are also part of an assistant / associate Professor’s duties. The assistant/associate professor supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate theses and acquires external funding to maintain a research group.

Salary

Salaries are based on job demands and employees’ performance following the Finnish University Salary System. A holiday bonus is paid to all employees. There is a trial period of six months at the start of the period of employment.

4. A  maximum of five (5) main publications, numbered in accordance with the list of publications
5. A brief description of the applicant’s merits related to research, research leadership,  and research funding, and a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant’s current and future activities will complement those of the Department of Educational Sciences in the field and position being applied for (total of max 4 pages). 
6. Portfolio of teaching credits (max. 3 pages).
