Faculty of Information Technology is currently seeking to recruit a

Postdoctoral Researcher, Computational Science, for a fixed-term period of 2 August 2021 – 31 July 2023

Tasks and qualifications

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher for a research project where the goal is to systematically answer the question of how existing computers and future quantum machines should be exploited to the needs of information technology and computation. One of the central goals is to classify which type of problems fit best to quantum computers. The Postdoctoral Researcher's tasks include research work, organizing tasks related to the research project, high-quality and active publication of the topic, active preparation of further research projects, and procuring follow-up funding. Besides, the Postdoctoral Researcher will also participate in the faculty's teaching tasks as well as supervision of master theses, thus developing in his/her academic career.

Applicants are required to have a suitable doctoral degree. Previous experience and evidence of research related to this position's content are considered an advantage for the applicant. We value an ability to high-level publishing, active participation in procuring research funding, and interest in teaching and supervision of master theses and the research work.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. In this position, the Postdoctoral Researcher is expected to have excellent skills in English language.

The annual salary range will be approximately 40,000 – 54,000 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

2. List of publications. The list should comply with the guidelines of the Academy of Finland
3. A maximum of five main publications (as a single PDF file or in one zip-file)
4. Application letter, including applicant’s research interests and plan. The application letter should also include a brief (max 1 page) description of the applicant´s view of quantum computability.
