Load & Haul Division’s Turku plant with in Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is a global technology and manufacturing center for underground loading & hauling equipment for mining industry. Today intelligent control system plays an essential and increasingly important role in safe and productive usage of mining equipment. R&D and Product Development organization is currently looking for a dynamic and innovative Senior SW Engineer to work in software development of Control Systems area. The position is permanent and based in Turku, Finland. Work is done in hybrid working mode.

Your mission

As a Senior SW Engineer, you will implement of Control System SW according to high level functional specifications and approved wireframe models. You are also expected to be capable to learn and maintain an existing Control System SW developed for battery electric machines. On top of the requirements mentioned earlier you are expected to provide robust bug free code that meets the high quality requirements of Control System SW.

To succeed in this role you have several years of hands on experience of SW development and willingness to travel occasionally. You are willing to learn how the Load and Haul machines operate in detail and in a larger high level scope. Control System SW is the heart of the mining machine and it has to work safely and reliably in all possible cases. The lifespan of Control System SW is counted in decades and the machines operate in distant underground mines in harsh conditions, so the SW quality and maintainability must be at a very high level.

The main responsibilities include the following:

  • Implementing new SW modules and maintaining existing modules of Control System Machine Control SW with CODESYS (IEC 61131-3) and C++ programming languages
  • Implementing new features and maintaining existing features of Control System Display SW according to functional specifications and wireframe models with C++, Qt and QML programming languages
  • Participating and contributing to SW system level documentation as well as low level SW specifications and SW documentation
  • Debugging and analysing the existing SW modules of Control System for new and existing machine features
  • Providing hands on SW debugging and testing support for the development projects and factory testers

Your background

You have a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT/Software, automation or similar. You have a proven track record of hands on SW development tasks. Development experience with C, C++, Qt or CoDeSys is much appreciated for this role. You are a good team player that has good set of suitable team working skills. You are also able to provide high quality code independently according to the functional specifications and wireframe models. Knowledge of working machine Control Systems, electric powertrain, battery electric vehicles and distributed control SWs are considered as major assets for this role.

Your fluent communication skills in written and spoken English is a mandatory requirement. Proactive and systematic way of working and excellent skills in problem solving will be needed. You can work under pressure in a multicultural stakeholder environment and you have capability to meet the challenging targets driven by project deadlines in the field of Control System SW development. To be successful in this role, you must be eager to learn new technologies, existing code base, processes and tools.
