The Faculty of Information technology is recruiting

1-2 tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor(s) in Information System Science

The position will be filled from January 1st, 2022 or as soon as possible after this date. The position is for a fixed term for 3-5 years.

Duties and requirements

The faculty has a long tradition in Information systems science research, especially in information security management, value creation dynamics, information systems development and software business research. The tenure track position will strengthen the faculty’s research profile in the emerging technologies and in the future work with research in the sustainable software business environment and human-oriented, continuous information systems development.

The main responsibilities of the recruited tenure track -professor are research and teaching in the field of information system science. You have the profile that we are looking for if you carry out high quality international research in information system science and, in particular, methods and tools for the human-oriented, continuous development of information systems and/or sustainable software business. We expect your research results to become visible on the most prestigious publication channels of the field. In addition to research, the duties of the assistant/associate professor include teaching and post graduate supervision. The duties to supervise MSc degree students, PhD students, and post doctoral researchers vary depending on the tenure track level. The work profile includes also continuous development of teaching, faculty development and administrative obligations. The recruited person is also expected to take a responsibility for establishing research projects in the area of Information Systems Science and EWIDE-profiling area and gaining external funding for the research group.

Salary is based on the duty-specific job demands and personal performance according to the university's salary system.

  • Application / motivation letter
  • Curriculum vitae (CV), which also includes a personal ORCID id (curriculum vitae according to the template for researcher's curriculum vitae, Finnish National Board on Research Integrity, TENK)
  • Numbered list of all scientific and other publications with which the applicant wishes to demonstrate his / her competence and merit for the position
  • Up to five (5) most important publications, which must be numbered according to the list of publications
  • A short research plan and a written description of the applicant's scientific research merits related to scientific activities and research management. This should include a statement on the obtained external funding and on applicant’s responsibilities in the research projects accomplished with such funding
  • Teaching portfolio, including applicant’s pedagogical approach, education, and teaching and supervision experience (see instructions)

The Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä is the first and largest in its field in Finland. The mission of the Faculty is to create science based digital future. In research, education and stakeholder collaboration, the Faculty combines comprehensively the viewpoints of technology, information, organizations, business and people. The IT Faculty employs 180 people and, currently, there are 2400 undergraduate students and 150 postgraduate students. Teaching is given both in Finnish and in English. Strong collaboration with companies and other actors in society is based on long-term research. The faculty's research is organized through four areas of activity, which are computational science, software and telecommunications technology, information systems science, and educational technology and cognitive science. The faculty traditionally has degree programs in the natural sciences and business, in addition to which a new degree program in technology will be launched in August 2021. The new tenure track professors to be recruited have a unique opportunity to get involved in the development of the new degree program if they wish.
