PROJECT RESEARCHER/POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER FOR FIXED-TERM 1.9.2021– 31.12.2024

The vacancy is positioned at the Department of Economics (https://www.utu.fi/en/university/turku-school-of-economics/economics) in the University of Turku School of Economics. The department conducts high-quality research in economics and belongs to the leading Finnish educators of economics at all degree levels.

Duties

The duties of the Project Researcher/Postdoctoral Researcher comprise scientific research independently and as part of a research team in the Academy of Finland funded research project ”Enhancing competition and efficiency in public procurements”. The projects combines economics and legal studies of public procurement.

Duties also involve tasks related to the maintenance and development of the decision-making laboratory (PCRClab, https://pcrclab.utu.fi/?page_id=894&lang=en) at the University of Turku as well as teaching and supervision in degree programs in the field of Economics. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also participate in the planning and building of externally funded research projects in co-operation with other researchers, and takes part in administrative duties. The exact duties will be determined based on the competence and expertise of the selected candidate.

Requirements

By opening the position of Postdoctoral Researcher, we aim to promote the research career of persons who have recently completed their doctoral degree. Person selected for the position of Project researcher should have completed their doctoral degree about by the end of year 2021.

Person selected for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher shall have an appropriate doctoral degree, successfully completed by the end of the application period. The qualification requirements of the position are described in the rules of procedure of the University of Turku.

Person selected is also required to have ability to independent research and to give research-based teaching in the field of Economics. Successful applicants have strong research orientation and fluency in English. The person selected would benefit from interest in public procurement topics, familiarity with microeconomic theory (e.g. auction theory), familiarity or interest in behavioral lab experiments (e.g. coding in oTree) and/or skills in structural econometrics of auctions. Also the ability to handle large data sets is an asset.

Salary

For project researcher the salary is in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel at level 4, where the position-specific salary component is 2591,28 euros per month.  For postdoctoral researcher the salary is in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel, levels 5-6, where the position-specific salary component is 3000,49–3498,98 euros per month.

In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal work performance component is 6– 50% of the task specific salary component.

The position is subject to a six months trial period.
