The Department of Physics is currently seeking to recruit candidates to the position of

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER, PHYSICS

The position starts on September 1, 2021 or as agreed, for a fixed-term of 2 years.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the project "Microwave optomechanics with magnons". This project focuses on the study of magnomechanical systems close to the quantum limit. The aim is to study the phenomena resulting from the coupling of vibrations and driven magnetic resonance and especially the role of spin-orbit torque in the quantum limit of magnetisation precession. The project work is theoretical physics in the group of Prof. Tero Heikkilä, but is done in close collaboration with two experimental groups in Aalto University, those of Assoc. Prof. Mika Sillanpää and Prof. Sebastiaan van Dijken.

You are the person we are looking for if you have a PhD degree in condensed matter physics or quantum optics and if you are a creative and open minded theoretical physicist who likes to work with experimentalists. We expect candidates with a good command of the tools of open quantum systems. Knowledge of optomechanics, magnetisation dynamics and spin orbit torques is considered an asset, but these topics can be also learned within the project.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. A good command of English is required and a proficiency to teach in English will be considered beneficial. The PhD degree required for the position must have been completed before starting the position.
