The Department of Biological and Environmental Science is currently seeking to recruit candidates to the positions of

3 DOCTORAL RESEARCHERS in BIOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

The positions start on January 3, 2022 or as agreed, for a maximum of four years, with an inital contract of 12 months.

Qualifications we are looking for

The Doctoral Programme in Biological and Environmental Science at Jyväskylä University offers doctoral education in Aquatic Science, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology and Environmental Science. Doctoral Researchers work in the department's research groups. The three PhD thesis projects at this call are:

  1. Sexual selection from first principles (Main supervisor: Jussi Lehtonen)
  2. Eco-evolutionary feedbacks via anthropogenetic change (Main supervisor: Katja Räsänen)
  3. Filamin mechanosensor in muscle development and disease (Main supervisor: Jari Ylänne)

You are the person we are looking for
 if you have a Master’s degree, or be about to obtain a Master’s degree, in a relevant discipline and have a strong interest in the offered research projects.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Doctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The Master’s degree must have been completed before starting the position. A good command of English is required. Doctoral Researcher needs to be also enrolled in the doctoral programme which can be applied from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science after selection for the position.

The annual salary range will be approximately 28,500 EUR (gross income, including a holiday bonus). With progress of the thesis work, the salary will be revised in accordance with the Collective Agreement of Finnish Universities. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

The research in the Department focuses on three core areas: evolutionary biology, natural resources and environment, and biological nanoscience.
