HW Engineer, Control Systems and Automation

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is a business area in the Sandvik Group and responsible for development of technologies and products which serve all product areas, including rock drills, automation, data driven productivity, common research and technologies, patents and engineering services.

Business Unit Automation develops technologies, products and automation solutions for various mining applications and sells them globally in all major mining regions.

Hardware and Services team within BU Automation is responsible of creating and maintaining high-quality, stable and robust HW platform for use of all divisions. In addition, team offers professional services in areas of design, implementation and project management for various technology projects.

We are looking for an enthusiastic HW Engineer to join our Hardware and Services team. This position is permanent, full-time and based in Tampere, Finland.

Your mission

As a HW Engineer, Control systems and Automation, you will be responsible of maintaining Sandvik HW library components, managing and implementing HW projects, helping Sandvik divisions to select HW components and monitoring trends and new technologies.

Your main responsibilities

  • Maintaining Sandvik HW library, controlling component life cycles, plan component replacements and new component selections.
  • Participating in different Mine Automation projects providing hardware expertise.
  • Managing and implementing HW projects, including electronics design, component selections, specification creation and handling embedded software design subcontracting.
  • Working closely with Sandvik divisions when selecting new HW components. Co-operating with suppliers to find best possible solutions for division needs.
  • Actively monitoring market situation and new emerging technologies which could be utilized in Sandvik.

Your background

You have a Master or Bachelor of Engineering in electronics, automation or similar. To succeed in this role, you have previous experience working with HW components and electronics, making component selections, running or implementing mobile machine automation or other automation engineering projects. Good understanding of electronics design, previous experience in working with HW component suppliers and knowledge of electric systems in harsh environments is considered beneficial. You also might have previously worked with mobile machine control HW, camera systems, sensoring, IP networks, onboard wireless gateways or cablings.

The job requires good written and verbal communication skills and fluent English.
