The Energy business is characterized by the combination of large and complex projects with long sales cycles for power plants and shorter for storage. We also offer continuous services and lifecycle solutions. 

We are looking for a dynamic Vice President for our Africa & Europe Area organisation. As Vice President, you will lead end to end energy business in the area. You will have a key role in driving and transforming the organisation. The ultimate goal of this position is to ensure business growth, profitability and customer satisfaction. 

We are looking for a commercially strong leader with a proven track record, with a previous background in both large projects and services, to lead the renewal of the sales organization and processes within the Area.

You will be a member of the Energy Management Team, reporting to the President of Energy, Sushil Purohit. 

Location:

Finland and also other main Energy locations in Europe

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and formulating business strategy as a member of the business management team. Execution of business projects, initiatives and action plans, with strong follow-up capability
  • Have excellent understanding of the energy business from new build to life cycle
  • Lead energy business (Power plants and Storage, Services business) with end to end P&L
  • To implement S&OP practices in close cooperation with the Business Units ensure proper project resourcing and managing the project portfolio risks
  • Drive strong focus on sales and project execution in the area
  • Accountable for market development, origination and area level strategic actions
  • Proactively connect with our customers to further improve our ways of working and support our project deliveries
  • Clear customer ownership, customer focus and service mindset also in tough situations
  • Have the drive to make a turnaround in business performance
  • Drive for performance with positive attitude and ability to inspire others 
  • Be a sparring partner to the President of Wartsila Energy

  • Cultural savviness and experience of operating in Africa are considered a strength
  • Communication, cooperation, and influencing skills; being able to guide his/her own team on how to work in a complex environment and with Wärtsilä’s purpose in mind
  • Ability to generate energy and enthusiasm and vision for the future of the area
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills, can-do attitude in an environment of multiple, changing priorities, and great ability to work under pressure
  • Strong internal motivation, passion for execution, attention for details, and desire to win
  • Secure our business profitability by proactive risk management practises and project portfolio management on energy business level. 
  • Lead a culture towards continuous learning, continuous improvement and adaptability. Build engagement and accountability in the organisation.

Requirements:

  • B.Sc/M.Sc. in engineering
  • Proven track record of leading Profit and loss account, project delivery organisations successfully and business turnaround experience would be preferred.  
  • Experience of sales in project business or construction business in an international environment 
  • Strong change management experience and experience in leading business transformation and building new capabilities. 
  • Energy industry understanding is seen as advantage 
  • Inspirational and people-oriented leader, who is able to build culture of trust, continuous improvement and learning and engagement 
  • Visionary and strategic thinking: able to see big picture and think out of the box
  • Business-minded and goal-oriented people, drives for results with excellent planning and execution skills 
  • Experienced in leading matrix teams and communicating easily with various stakeholders in an international environment
  • Strong influencing, networking and presentation skills 
  • Good skills in English (both written and spoken)
