We have millions of players who play our games with the expectation that they’re going to have fun! When other players cheat, or when players don’t feel safe, the games are way less fun; it’s the Trust & Safety Team’s job to make sure these sorts of things don’t happen. Our goal is to make the best games - games that are played by millions, enjoyed for years, and remembered forever! This can only happen if we ensure the safety of our players and the fairness of our games. It’s not easy, but it’s worth the effort!

This role lives within the Trust & Safety Team. The Fair Play Champion will work directly with our games, technical services, and player experience teams to manage projects and programs that combat cheating and promote fairness within our games. While the role is not necessarily a technical role, previous experience working in a technical environment will allow you to act more independently.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the account check process through our external agents:
    • Develop, maintain, and manage the various programs and processes run by the external teams to both detect and combat cheating in our games; ensuring fair play in our esports competitions is a major aspect of this responsibility
  • Work with Game Teams to develop cheat-detection in our games:
    • Research and understand the scope and prevalence of cheating within our games
    • Maintain a general understanding of cheating trends within the mobile gaming industry
    • Identify ways - whether through tools, machine learning/artificial intelligence, or human intervention - to reduce the unfair advantage some players gain through cheating
    • Work across multiple teams, including the Game Teams, to move projects forward
    • Develop clear communication methods to ensure players understand the rules, as well as what happens when the rules are violated
  • Ensure esport tournaments are free of cheating:
    • Manage the account check process being enacted by our external agents
    • Assist in high profile dispute resolution
    • Work as a key stakeholder in Supercell’s esports working group
    • Identify ways and drive projects intended to reduce the prevalence of cheating within the competitive areas of our games
  • Lead efforts to reduce fraudulent purchases within our games:
    • Work with payment providers and app stores to decrease the number of fraudulent purchases
    • Support internal teams as they set up new payment methods and help them learn to support them (refund support, anti-fraud programs, etc.)
    • Work with Player Support teams to ensure clear processes for dealing with refund abuse and payment fraud

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience working to reduce cheating, fighting fraud and promoting fair play
  • A clear understanding of competitive gaming and how players can gain unfair advantage through fraud and/or cheating
  • The ability to run queries (SQL) and use data to better understand complex problems
  • Experience working with partners/publishers to develop and implement anti-fraud tools
  • Ability to work in an international, fast-paced, challenging, and stimulating organization
  • Solid communication skills; able to compile and translate data, numbers, and analyses into normal English, and comfortable presenting findings to non-technical audiences
  • A passion for games and improving player experience
