We invite applications for contract-based, fixed term University Lecturer in English (literature) from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024. The term is fixed due to substitution.

 

The School of Languages and Translation Studies

The Department of English is part of the School of Languages and Translation Studies. The School is an active, diverse and international centre for teaching and research on languages studies. The areas of strength of the Department of English are discourse linguistics, historical linguistics and philology, second language acquisition, literature, translation and interpreting studies. In the literary studies, the New English literatures are a key area of interest. The position of University Lecturer

The position of University Lecturer entails

-          especially teaching in English language literature and literary studies

-          theses supervision

-          advising about studies

-          teaching oral and written skills

-          developing the studies and research

-          student admission duties

-          acquiring external research funding

-          independent scientific research

-          administrative duties

 

What we expect

In accordance to the eligibility criteria for University Lecturer, the applicant should have

-          a relevant PhD degree

-          the ability to give high-quality research-based teaching

-          the ability to supervise theses

When assessing the merits of the applicants we consider

-          the quality of scientific work (publications, external research funding)

-          expertise in the field in question

-          teaching experience

-          pedagogical education

-          ability to produce study materials

-          other teaching merits

-          possible previous teaching demonstrations


Successful performance in the position requires

-          experience in university level of teaching in English as major subject

-          excellent proficiency in English

-          good interaction skills

-          fluency in Finnish is beneficial

Salary

The salary is in accordance with the universities’ salary system for teaching and research personnel. The work-specific salary component is on the job demands assessment levels 5–7. There is an additional component based on personal performance that is typically 6–17% at the beginning of contract. The salary for the position depends on prior experience and qualifications, and is at the beginning about 3,180 to 4,700 Euros per month.

 

Trial period

There will be a trial period of six months.
