The University of Turku is a world-class multidisciplinary research university which offers interesting challenges and a unique vantage point to national and international research and education.

The Department of Computing at the University of Turku is looking for a Postdoctoral researcher or Doctoral candidate / Project researcher for a fixed-term position in the area of machine learning and data science. The work starts 1.3.2022 (or later based on mutual agreement) and ends 31.12.2024.

The aim of the project is to develop AI methods for predicting interactions of objects. Such problems are prevalent in scientific research as well as commercial applications, for example, in medicine, recommender systems and social network analysis. The technologies will be rigorously evaluated in practical applications in biomedicine, such as predicting drug combination responses in cancer (see e.g. our recent result: Julkunen et al., Nature Communications, 2020, http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/s41467-020-19950-z and press cover: https://www.hs.fi/tiede/art-2000007659157.html). The positions are affiliated to a large multi-year research grant funded by the Academy of Finland (“AI technologies for biomedical interaction prediction”). The project is jointly implemented by a research consortium that includes the research groups of Antti Airola (University of Turku), Tapio Pahikkala (University of Turku), Juho Rousu (Aalto University) and Tero Aittokallio (FIMM). The work will be carried out at the University of Turku under the supervision of Associate Professor Tapio Pahikkala (http://staff.cs.utu.fi/~aatapa/) and Assistant Professor Antti Airola, as a joint collaboration of the Algorithmics and Computational Intelligence and Digital Health Technology (https://healthtech.utu.fi/) research groups.
