Description of the position

Neurodegenerative proteinopathy unit is seeking a dynamic, curious and skilled trainee to be based in R&D laboratories in Turku. You will be working with the in vitro scientists and contribute to the progress of existing projects. This is an opportunity to learn more about neurodegeneration and drug discovery in pharmaceutical industry. 

You will be

  • Culturing and managing mammalian cells, primary rodent neurons
  • Performing in vitro cell based assays
  • Analyzing experiments using biochemical techniques and/or molecular biology assays (eg. qPCR, WB and/or cell imaging)

Description of the unit

Neurodegenerative proteinopathy unit is working on neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to develop therapies and to understand the underlying disease mechanisms. This team is responsible for the discovery of novel targets and research projects in neurodegeneration at Orion.

Requirements

  • University student and/or university of applied sciences student or recent graduate
  • Prior knowledge and experience in cell culture techniques
  • Familiarity with molecular biology and biochemical techniques is valuable 
  • Able to communicate in verbal and written English

You are proactive and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. You also have good people skills and like working in a team environment. You have high motivation to work and are willing to learn new techniques.
