Interested in working around smart people with topics that will boost up your technological expertise and guarantee a bright future in industry? If yes, keep on reading!

We are seeking new Phd students to our Power Electronics research group. The research group of Power Electronics in the unit of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, Tampere University focuses on different power-electronics applications such as renewable-energy and energy-storage systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for smart and motivated people to work with several topics. One of the main topics is related to grid-connected systems such as wind and solar power. The number of these systems is continuously increasing raising up several issues related, for example, to stability, control, and electricity quality. The specific topics in our research group include the interaction issues with the renewable energy sources and the power grid as well as issues related to static synchronous compensators (STATCOMs).

The other main topic is related to rechargeable batteries. The combustion-engine cars will soon be replaced by electric cars, and there is an upcoming revolutionary period of batteries in many other areas as well. In our research group we are studying the dynamics of the batteries trying to develop methods with which the battery quality can be efficiently analyzed. One of the goals is to develop real-time methods with which the battery quality can be defined online, for example, in an electric car.

REQUIREMENTS

We value your smartness, motivation, and skills to learn new things. In this regard, we greatly appreciate your success and grades in your previous studies. We also greatly value your sense of humor and positive attitude. Extra credits are given if your studying history shows good amount of power electronics, and at least some courses in automation and control.

You need to have a master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science or a related field and have demonstrated (during your studies towards the master’s degree or otherwise) the competence and motivation to pursue postgraduate studies. Please be prepared to provide proof of your merits when requested.

Successful candidates must be pursuing or will be accepted to study towards a doctoral degree in the doctoral programme of the discipline. Please visit the admissions webpage https://www.tuni.fi/en/study-with-us/programmes/doctoral-programmes for more information on eligibility requirements.

Yhtenä tavoitteena on kehittää menetelmiä, joilla akkujen laatua voidaan analysoida reaaliaikaisesti (esimerkiksi sähköautoissa)
