The TUNI Prostate Cancer Research Center (PCRC) is a global leader in prostate cancer scientific research. The PCRC has over 60 employees or affiliates devoted to excellence in translating basic science research to improve health care. Our highly international, collegial team includes experts in medicine, molecular biology, cellular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, image analysis and software engineering. We are now looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Clinical-Translational Research Scientist).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Your job is to serve as a key designer and implementer of basic science experiments, coordinator of a small clinical trial, and contributor to our research integration software team. Basic science experiments revolve largely around DNA and RNA genomic and imaging methods. The clinical trial coordination involves work with clinical data and periodic meetings with clinicians, pathology staff, patients, and others. Contribution to the software team requires utilizing, testing and documenting web database functionality through our project management system. 

The successful applicant will have produced scientific publications in the past and will participate in development of future scientific publications and proposals. We offer an interesting opportunity to develop your skills with the latest genomic and cell biology, software, and data analytic technologies as part of a highly interdisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to contribute to our mission of enabling more efficient, customized treatment methods for cancer patients while improving basic science research.  

REQUIREMENTS

• PhD or similar degree in a relevant field
• strong desire to help cancer patients through integration of top-quality basic science and clinical trials 
• competence to pursue independent scientific work and adequate teaching skills
• excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Finnish
• interest in learning bioinformatic methods, image processing methods, and developing new genomic methods is a plus but not required

WE OFFER

The position will be filled for a fixed-term period from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023. The starting date is negotiable. Extension of two years is possible, if the project is successful. A trial period applies to all our new employees. The candidate will be working on the Kauppi campus, Tampere, Finland, and by remote work. 

The salary of the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities.  According to the criteria applied to research and teaching staff, the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is placed on level 5-6 of the job requirements scale.

TEHTÄVÄNKUVAUS

Tehtävänäsi on toimia keskeisenä suunnittelijana ja toteuttajana perustieteellisissä kokeissa, kliinisen tutkimuksen koordinaattorina sekä tutkimuksen integrointiohjelmistotiimimme edistäjänä. Perustieteelliset kokeet pyörivät pitkälti DNA- ja RNA-genomisten ja kuvantamismenetelmien ympärillä. Kliinisen tutkimuksen koordinointiin sisältyy kliinisten tietojen käsittelyä sekä säännölliset tapaamiset lääkäreiden, patologian henkilökunnan, potilaiden ja muiden kanssa. Osallistuminen ohjelmistotiimiin edellyttää verkkotietokannan toimivuuden hyödyntämistä, testaamista ja dokumentointia projektinhallintajärjestelmämme kautta. 

Tehtävään valittava hakija on tuottanut tieteellisiä julkaisuja aiemmin ja hän osallistuu tulevien tieteellisten julkaisujen ja ehdotusten kehittämiseen. Tarjoamme mielenkiintoisen mahdollisuuden kehittää taitojasi uusimman genomi- ja solubiologian, ohjelmiston sekä data-analyyttisten tekniikoiden parissa, osana monitieteistä tiimiä.
